Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner in "Bronzed Brown Eyes" Review + Swatches

I believe I grabbed this Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Eyeshadow Palette in "Bronzed Brown Eyes" for an incredible low price point on Walgreens a few months back - a mere $3.75 for 7.5 g / 0.26 oz compared to the usual price of $10.79 - $11.79. I am not sure what the reason behind this is since this palette is still now sold at this price while the rest are in normal price. Physicians Formula products are in the higher price range in the drugstores so I am totally happy to be able to get this palette.

We can forget about the applicator, shall we? I don't think it's at all useful for blending out colors, but for press them on the lid maybe it's still of some usage.

In my experience, all 9 shades have a shimmery finish (as the product's name suggests), soft, nicely pigmented and easy to blend. I find that the two shades on the far right looks quite purple in the pan but they translate a tad more brownish on the skin. I can't see myself using all shimmer shades on my eye makeup (give me some mattes, please!) but despite of the price, these perform very well and I enjoy using them as a pop of golden goodness.

  •  1. Base: a very shimmery soft pink
  •  2. Lid: a medium pink with gold shimmer
  •  3. Crease: a medium matte taupe
  •  4. Highlighter: a medium gold with slight bronze untertone
  •  5. Liner: a dark brown with gold shimmer
As you can see, except for the Crease shade, the rest have a variety of shimmer levels. I find this quad to have high quality content: the shades are richly pigmented even without primer, soft, somewhat powdery yet easy to blend. That's quite what you can expect from a $50-palette, but not exactly what I want from such a high-end product. The shades can be a little "creamier" but overall it's a nice everyday palette and you don't need a whole lot to make it appear on your eyes.

Tag Tag Tag # I ♥ Drugstore Makeup TAG

Umm, anybody has the idea that this tag is quite a year old? I can't honestly believe it. Anyway, I am answering the tag anyhow since most of the products in my kits are budget buys, so here it comes to ye!

1. What is your favorite drugstore makeup brand overall?
I am divided between Maybelline and Sleek. I adore the Maybelline The Falsies mascara, Eyestudio quads and Colorsensational Gloss + Lipsticks. For Sleek they have some very fabulous i-Divine palettes, blushers and lipsticks that I use all the time.

2. What are your favorite face, cheek and lip products?
  • Face: Revlon Colorstay foundation (unfortunately the undertone is not yellow enough for me so I have to mix it) and Rimmel Stay Matte powder. I have also just discovered that using the Coty Airspun powder in Luminous Translucent gives a beautiful subtle highlight.
  • Cheek: Sleek blushers, they have some seriously pigment colors.
  • Lip: well, the Maybelline Colorsensational lipsticks and glosses

3. Least favorite product?
Covergirl Eye Enhancers quad in Tropical Fusion. The colors are exciting but I can't see myself reaching for it at all.

4. What is the best makeup bargain?
  • Makeup Academy MUA eyeshadow palettes in Heaven And Earth and Undressed. They are wonderfully pigmented and smooth for only £4 a pop and they always have some kind of offer going on.
  • Wet n Wild Color Icon 8-pan palettes. They surprised me with the major lovely performance.

5. What is your favorite underdog product? (Something you love that often gets overlooked?)
Covergirl Professional Loose Powder in Honey as a bronzer. I use it on and off, maybe I should rearrange my kit to put it in the spotlight :)

6. A drugstore product that is overpriced?
Mascara! The price is now close to $10 which is utterly ridiculous.

7. Show your best drugstore dupe(s)
ELF Gotta Glow blush vs NARS Albatross. Everyone talks about it I know.

8. Drugstore product that isn't worth the hype?
Bourjois Délice de Poudre bronzing powder: utterly utterly orange! I will have a review on this particular product coming later this week. Urgh!

So that's ultimately the I ♥ Drugstore Makeup TAG. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did as writing the post. Take care!

BH Cosmetics Floral Blush Duo In "Rose" Review + Swatches

During my Black Friday shopping craze I couldn't resist but pick a few things from BH Cosmetics - the brand I'm well familiar with from looking at numerous written and video reviews, so I was dying (not literally of course!) to try some of they products.

These Floral Blush Duos are solved at $9.95 for 10g/ 0.4oz exclusively on bhcosmetics.com and come in 5 shades: Tulip, Lilac, Rose, Iris and Daisy. As you can very well guess, the pan is divided into two sections: half blush and half complementary highlighter. I got the Rose one.

It comes in a sturdy handy cardboard compact with a good sized mirror house inside. I find the packaging quite weighty and adorable!

  • The blush side: is a reddish brick color with subtle shimmer shooting through.
  • The highlighter side: a peachy-tone with somewhat subtle shimmer.
I find both shades a little powdery, decently pigmented and the shimmer is not too much once applied on the skin. However, be careful with the blush section since it can appear a bit too much due to the red tone.
